This last session was most definitely the most fun. I think it might have come down to having some tunes playing, a whole lot of sugary treats to enjoy and just the general jubilation of getting to the last of our three sessions. We did portraits for: JACINTA + MARK + JOSH Mark and Jacinta are Father and Daughter and were both so open. We talked about their roles as carers and about their interests. When it came to sitting them down infront of the camera they were both quite relaxed so they were both super easy to shoot. Our final participant in this project was Josh. We has a caring role within his family and also works for Carers Support. He was really clear about what he wanted to express in this portrait and as a result this last portrait session was quick, easy and i really enjoyed the back and forth between us. I feel like i got my best shots during this session. Which is interesting because we had a few hiccups setting up, one of our hired lights arrived with no bulb! We stayed cool and i made do. It was a great night. And with that, that's it... tune in again over the next couple of weeks to see the final portraits! :)
On our second session we did portraits for: VANESSA + DIANE + DANIELLE + JADE This was a really tough night for me; i was quite poorly and our rented soft-boxes were so darn old and yellow. Even with the physical challenges of being sick it was lovely spending time each participant. Diane (above) was such a hoot and we all enjoyed hearing more of her story.
Our first portrait session made for a looooong night indeed but plenty of laughs were had. It was lovely getting to know everyone involved in the project a bit better. Vanessa painted and i photographed and morale was high. We worked on the portraits of: MARISSA + JESS + PENNY After seeing Vanessa's incredible designs for our first three participantsci made the decision to shoot these portraits with in incredibly shallow depth of field. This has made for such a lovely softness to the portraits. I really wanted to try and capture a moment with each person that was both honest and intimate. Statements like: 'I can never relax!' and'I just don't smile, someone said its doesn't look good!' could be heard being said by a couple of the gals throughout the session. But in the end i was so incredibly proud to see Marissa, Jess and Penny really be present in those moments that we were sharing together. They all took my guidance and allowed themselves to be vulnerable. It was a great night and such a great start to the project.
